Nizwa: The Sultanate today organized activities, via videoconferencing, in different governorates to celebrate the International Day for Preservation of the Ozone Layer, which falls on 16 September. In the Wilayat of Nizwa, the event included a lecture delivered by Mohammed Mubarak Al Hassani, Climate Affairs Specialist at the Directorate General of Meteorology.

The lecture enlightened the audience about the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and the Montreal Protocol on Ozone Layer Depleting Substances. It highlighted the signatory states’ agreement to cooperate towards the protection of the Ozone layer.

It stressed the need to devise a special protocol to regulate countries’ production and use of Ozone-depleting substances. The Sultanate, Al Hassani said, has been able to provide technical support aimed to meet the requirements of Ozone layer protection.

Oman also provided the relevant systems (equipment) and used them in accordance with laws and legislations about Ozone layer depleting substances, said Al Hassani, who quoted Ministerial Decision No. 107/2013 and amended Ministerial Decision No. 67/2015.
