The Sultanate of Oman will celebrate World Patient Safety Day on Saturday by providing Covid-19 immunisation, for expectant mothers, without prior appointment at Oman Convention Exhibition Centre.
The open day is for all pregnant women in the country for both national and residents from 10 am to 4 pm. The Directorate General of the Health Service of Muscat Region is extending an open day for immunisation against Covid-19 in-line with the World Patient Safety Day which falls on September 17 every year.
The World Health Organization has urged all stakeholders to, “Act now for safe and respectful childbirth.” The theme this year is, ‘Safe Maternal and Newborn Care.’
“Women can come directly without any prior appointment. The main objective is to ensure safety for the mother and baby especially during childbirth. We have also engaged a few stakeholders with us for example the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre will be lit up in orange light as that is the colour for World Patient Safety Day. Our Directorate General building will also be lit up in orange and few other monuments that will also do so in solidarity,” said Dr Muna bint Habib al Lawatiyah, Head of Quality Improvement and Patient Safety, Directorate General of Health Services, Muscat Governorate.
The pandemic has affected everyone in different ways and it has been very difficult for pregnant women to have access to healthcare. On Thursday there is a virtual conference which will highlight the Safety Patient Day. The Minister of Health will launch during the conference the first Patient Safety Standard for patient safety.
