

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Education, represented by the Directorate-General for Curriculum Development "Citizenship Department", in coordination with the Specialized Institute for Vocational Training for Teachers, organized a training program titled “Developing Applied Models for the Concepts of Citizenship Education.
The program began on Monday through video communication, and continues for three days, and targets Forty-four teachers of humanities and applied sciences and life skills in the educational governorates.
Dr Badriya al Mashrafieh, Head of the Citizenship Studies Department in the Citizenship Department, said: “This program comes as a contribution opportunity to achieving national aspirations in the priority of citizenship, identity, heritage and national culture in Oman Vision 2040. It also comes to provide an opportunity for teachers in the Sultanate to participate with the best three teaching models for the concepts of citizenship education according to the project-based learning strategy in the coming Gulf Teacher Forum, January 24-26, 2022.”
Sabha al Himaliah, an educational researcher in the Citizenship Department, presented two papers. The first paper entitled "Citizenship in the Strategies of the Arab Education Office" and the second came under the titled "Project-Based Learning and Its Importance in Teaching Citizenship Concepts."
The second day Tuesday includes two papers as well. The first one entitled “A Review of the Stages of Building a Lesson in Citizenship Education Programs According to the Project-Based Learning Strategy” and the second entitled “Applied Model in teaching Citizenship Education According to the Projects-Based Education Strategy."
The last day Wednesday of the training program will also include two papers. The first one entitled “Evaluation of Projects in Citizenship Education Programs”, while the second paper entitled “An Applied Model for Teaching Citizenship Concepts in the Omani Curricula” (Life skills as an example).
The program aims to provide trainees with the concepts of citizenship education and related knowledge, assessment and follow-up skills for lessons in the citizenship education program. It also aims to train them on the unified Gulf program “Teaching the concepts of citizenship education according to the project-based learning strategy” and on designing teaching models in citizenship education according to Project-based learning. The program also seeks to introduce trainees to project-based learning according to specific stages and teaching strategies.
