Oman-Saudi workshop starts on digital economy

MUSCAT: A joint Omani-Saudi workshop on the ‘Digital Economy’, organised by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, began on Monday with a focus on strengthening cooperation and discussing joint initiatives between the two countries.


In opening remarks, Dr Ali bin Amer al Shidhani, Communications and IT Under-Secretary of the Ministry, stressed the importance of the digital economy for global growth.


The workshop is an opportunity for both sides to exchange experiences and best practices in the field of the digital economy and discuss prospects for cooperation and joint projects between the two countries in this field, said the under-secretary.


Dr Ibrahim bin Mahmoud Babli, Under-Secretary of Saudi’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, said the seminar aims to follow up and develop an activation plan for a bilateral agreement to be signed between the two ministries next month covering cooperation in the telecommunications and information technology sectors. He explained that the agreement will include cooperation in emerging technologies, communications, future skills and regulatory policies on communications and information technology. - ONA
