MUSCAT: As part of the efforts to implement the national initiative to plant 10 million trees and rehabilitate khors in the Sultanate, the Environment Authority planted 1,200 mangrove saplings in Khor Ghawi in the Wilayat of Al Jazir in the Al Wusta Governorate.
“The mangroves have great benefits in maintaining the ecological balance, as they work to preserve beaches from erosion and are incubating areas for many commercially valuable fish and other marine creatures, in addition to their contribution to storing carbon dioxide,” the authority said in a statement issued online.
