243 applications submitted for the National Research Award 2021

Muscat: The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MoHERI) has recently closed the registration for the eighth cycle of the National Research Award 2021.


For this year’s registration, there was an increase in the number of research projects submitted for participation compared to the previous cycle by 11.4% as the total number of applications submitted reached 243.


The National Research Award (NRA) is divided into two categories; Best published research led by a PhD holder or equivalent (Senior Specialist or higher in the medical field) and Best published research led by a young researcher (a non-PhD holder). Out of the 243 applications submitted for the NRA, 143 applications were submitted in the PhD holder or equivalent category, while 100 applications were submitted in the Young Researcher’s category.


The research applications were submitted in accordance to the six research fields of the award in both the PhD and Young Researcher categories, with 48 applications in the Education and Human Resources field, 21 applications in the Information and Communication Technologies field, 60 applications in the Health and Social Services field, 42 applications in the Cultural, Social, and Basic Sciences field, 22 applications in the Energy and Industry field, and 50 applications in the Environmental and Biological Resources field. The winners of the National Research Award will be announced in the upcoming Annual Research Forum. --ONA
