New Archaeological Reserve in Dhofar

MUSCAT: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik on Monday issued Royal Decree No 58/2021 establishing Khor Kharfout Archaeological Reserve in Dhofar Governorate.


Article (1) of the Royal Decree states that a sanctuary under the name “Khor Kharfout Archaeological Reserve” shall be established in the Governorate of Dhofar and that it shall be accorded the zone whose demarcations are indicated in the annex and diagram attached to this Decree.


Article (2) stipulates that the Chairman of the Environment Authority, acting in coordination with ministries and departments concerned, shall issue the regulations and decisions necessary for the implementation of this decree. The regulations and decisions shall include the method of management of this archaeological reserve, formalities for entry to the sanctuary, the prescribed fees, the duration of stay therein, the activities allowed to be practiced or prohibited there and the appropriate administrative penalties against each case of violation.


Article (3) says that this Decree shall be published in the Official Gazette and enforced on the day following its date of publication. — ONA
