Citizens will get revised power bills in September as electricity distribution companies are yet to finish recalculating the tariffs.

“We are currently working on recalculating the monthly citizen account bills in May and June as per the changes to the tariff structure,” said Muscat Electricity Distribution Company (MEDC) in a statement.

The recalculation process will result in cancelling the invoices issued in May and June 2021, and instead new bills for these months will be issued.

The process will take more time and the notification is expected to be issued during the second week of September.

The discounts shown in the bills shown in the electronic payment channels are not the final amount, it added.

Each subscriber will receive a notification showing the value of the bills for the months of May and June, 2021, according to the new calculation mechanism.

Mazoon Electricity Company, too, said it is working on recalculating the citizen's bills.

The Authority for Public Services and Regulation (ASPR) had recently said that electricity tariffs will be fixed at 12 baisas during summer months between March and September. The new tariffs are 12 baisas (0-4000 kWh), 16 baisas (4001-6000 kWh) and 27 baisas for over 6000 kilowatt-hours. The tariff will be revised in October for non-summer months.

APSR also said there will be no cut in electricity service during the summer months due to non-payment of dues after it received around 7,000 complaints on inflated electricity bills.
