Oman beach soccer team is all set for the 2021 Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup which is scheduled to take place from Thursday until August 29 in Russia. This is the fourth presence for the national beach soccer team in the top beach soccer showpiece tournament.
Oman’s campaign in the prestigious championship will begin on Friday as the team will face Portugal. Two days later, the Sultanate will meet Uruguay while the concluding group fixture is against Senegal on August 24.
The long serving national coach, Talib Hilal, supervised the training sessions as part of the short overseas camp in Russia. Oman had played three friendly matches in Russia and the first preparatory fixture ended in favour for Talib Hilal’s men 3-2. The goals were scored by Khalid al Oraimi, Salim al Oraimi and Nouh al Zadjali. The Sultanate’s team managed to register second successive win against Paraguay 3-1 in the second friendly game. The third friendly encounter ended in a 2-2 draw against Edirnespor FC club.
The head of the Sultanate’s delegation in Russia, Mohammed al Shehi, OFA board member, accompanied with the technical staff represented by coach Talib Hilal and Nabil al Balushi, team manager, attended the coordination meeting on Tuesday ahead of the start of the championship.
During the meeting, which was held virtually, the organising committee discussed the participating teams' training session schedules and deadline of submitting the starting list besides other technical related points.
Also, the organisers highlighted the medical protocol against spreading of Covid-19 and that will be implemented during the championship. Later, coach Talib attended another technical meeting which addressed other technical details related to the tournament. Post the meeting, the Oman coach received the official award of Sultanate’s participation in the 2021 Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup.
Oman men’s beach soccer team will be looking for a different show with an aim of advancing to the next round in the fourth attendance at Beach Soccer World Cup. The Sultanate had participated in Beach Soccer World Cup in Ravenna city in Italy in 2011 and in Portugal in 2015. The third participation of the team was at the Beach Soccer World Cup in Paraguay in December 2019.
