MUSCAT: Muscat Municipality is currently implementing a number of vital and strategic projects in the wilayats of the governorate including the rainwater drainage channels project.

Eng Mohammed bin Salim al Yazeedi, road project engineer at the Department of Road Projects at Muscat Municipality, affirmed that the municipality has embarked on the first phase of the rainwater drainage channels project in Al Mahaj district in the Wilayat of Al Amerat.

The channel is 2 km long and 5-9 metre wide, Al Yazeedi said, adding that the project involves cutting hills, constructing 4-km protection for the channels and 4-cell viaducts on the service road crossing the path of the channel.

The project also involves relocation and protection of services on the path of the channels. It is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

The first phase of the project is under way to construct viaducts on the entrance and the exit of Darsait district in the Wilayat of Muttrah. The project involves transfer and protection of several services on the path of the valley. The project is expected to be completed at the end of this month, Al Yazeedi said.

In addition, Muscat Municipality continues the construction of rainwater drainage channels in Wadi Al Ghadeer in the Wilayat of Bushar extending from the November 18 road to the sea. The project, expected to be completed by the end of this year, involves clean-up work on the wadi and construction of three viaducts and 3-km protections on Wadi Al Ghadeer as well as construction of two Irish bridges on roads crossing the path of the valley, the officials concluded. — ONA
