Taha named coordinator for Fina Worlds in Abu Dhabi

Taha al Kishry, Oman’s board member in world swimming body, has been named the coordinator for the Fina World Championships to be held in Abu Dhabi in December. This was decided at the second Fina bureau meeting at Tokyo Aquatics Centre on Tuesday.

The meeting was presided over by Fina President Dr Hussain al Musallam. Many board members were present in Tokyo while others attended remotely through advanced communication platforms.

The Fina president appreciated the efforts by the members during the past period since election of the new board in Doha in June.

Kuwait’s Al Musallam praised the tremendous efforts taken by the organising committee to host the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with implementation of all strict precautionary measures which secured safety of all the participants and assisted to have a safe Olympic Games in all the venues especially in swimming competitions.

Also, the Fina chief congratulated all the swimmers who bagged medals during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and to those who registered new world and Olympic records. Six world records and 33 Olympic records have been registered in swimming competitions during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Taha al Kishry briefly presented the latest updates for Fina World Swimming Championship (25 m) in next December in Abu Dhabi including the logistics, technical and other related subjects. Al Kishry was named by Fina to be the coordinator between the orgainising committee and the Fina.

The Fina bureau reviewed the Fina staff manual policy. The members raised their amendments and suggestions ahead of the policy approval in the forthcoming meeting as part of Fina World Swimming Championship (25 m) in Abu Dhabi.

The Fina board members approved host broadcasting for 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Doha. Also, the members reviewed the marketing plan and raised their amendments prior to the final approval.

The first draft of the Fina general programme for the forthcoming period was presented to the board members. The programme featured supporting the national associations, supporting the top swimmers, establishing training and education swimming centre, organising development courses for coaches and referees, scholarship for the top junior and youth swimmers.
