Muscat: There were 371 deaths in 2020 due to traffic accidents in 2020, at the rate of one death a day, the National Centre for Statistics (NCSI) said in a report.
Of these, 238 victims were Omanis and 133 expatriates and 230 of them were men.
Speed accounted for most road accident deaths (198 or 53 per cent), followed by negligence (56), bad behaviour 47, vehicle defects 27 and overtaking 27.
Ten deaths were due to not leaving a safe distance, eight due to intoxication, and five due to weather.
Most deaths were reported from Muscat (25), Dhofar (28), and North Batinah (31).
