BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: “Al Khalil bin Ahmed al Farahidi” Corner for Omani Publications was inaugurated at the Library of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports in Brunei Darussalam.

The inauguration ceremony was held in cooperation with the Sultanate’s Embassy in Brunei Darussalam under the auspices of Dato Aminuddin Ehsan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.

The corner aims to strengthen the distinguished cultural cooperation relations between the two countries.

Shaikh Ahmed bin Hashel al Maskari, the Sultanate’s ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, said in his speech during the ceremony that the move is part of the embassy’s endeavour to continue strengthening the outstanding relations of cooperation and friendship between the Sultanate and Brunei Darussalam in cultural cooperation and related fields.

It also aims to support the initiatives launched by the Bruneian government to encourage young people to adopt a culture of reading and knowledge, by enriching public libraries in Brunei with different types of books covering various fields of knowledge, Al Maskari added.

The ceremony also included a cultural exhibition that displayed pictures of the most important heritage, cultural and tourist sites in the Sultanate, as well as the most prominent landmarks of the Omani Renaissance.

This event is a result of the embassy’s efforts exerted throughout the past few years, as six corners of Omani publications were launched in public libraries affiliated to higher education institutions and other official bodies in Brunei Darussalam.

Some of these corners were named after prominent Omani figures known for their status and contributions. These include Ibn Al Dhahabi Corner for Omani Publications, which was inaugurated at the Brunei University of Technology Library in October 2019, and Al Muhallab Ibn Abi Safra Corner for Omani Publications, which was inaugurated at the Brunei Defense Academy Library in October of last year.

There are also other corners for Omani publications in the Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College, Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University and Brunei Darussalam University.

The six corners include over 2000 publications that highlight the contributions of Omani scholars, thinkers and researchers in enriching intellectual and scientific fields in different types of knowledge. — ONA
