The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology yesterday signed an agreement with the National Energy Centre to support the rollout of smart infrastructure solutions, based on the deployment of Internet of Things (IoT) and other such advanced technologies.


Dr Ali bin Amer al Shaidhani, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Communication and Information Technology, signed the agreement on behalf of the Ministry. National Energy Centre was represented by Eng Abdullah bin Rashid al Badi, CEO. As part of the pact, the two sides will encourage the sharing of knowledge and experiences between the government, corporate and academic sectors. The agreement encompasses smart public services, smart infrastructure solutions, smart environment solutions, such as waste water management and smart road lighting system, as well as electricity and water meter reading solutions.


National Energy Centre (NEC), a semi-government company, was established to serve the utility sector through innovative and integrated smart solutions, smart services and smart technologies in the field of renewable energies and utility metering. NEC is a key player in the design, development and deployment of metering devices for the electricity sector.
