Bandar Al Khayran is one of the most stunning lagoons tucked in Oman’s 3,000 miles coastline. A scintillating place in the heart of Muscat where one would love to catch the early morning sunrays overlooking a spectacular landscape.

Bandar Al Khayran is an ideal hotspot in Oman and a great combo if one is looking for a beachside picnic, get hand of an adventurous activity, explore the trek line, spend a day by the magnificent blue waters, or a night-camp amidst the mountains, or just relax by yourself alone.

HOW TO REACH

Considering the driving time from Al Ghubra region, Bandar Al Khayran beach is a drive of about 45-50 minutes. To reach the view-point which is the most visited spot there, a normal car and a 4WD is not really necessary, though is still advisable to take one (considering the possibility of getting carried away and exploring more nearby areas like Yiti beach too!).

WHAT TO DO

Bandar Al Khayran viewpoint is ‘the most unmissable place’ of the Sultanate. The drive up to this point is curvaceous and serpentine, passing through the mountains and culminating into a spectacular view as you stop the car at the viewpoint which is a combination of mountains, coastline, and pristine sea of various hues of blue and green! The coastline is one of the most captivating and stunning ones along the Western side of Muscat.

The small islands give enough options for boating, kayaking, snorkeling, camping, or hiking. Do not miss taking the creative ‘slow-mo’ or ‘jump-in-the-air’ videos against the dazzling vast sea of various tones.

THINGS TO CARRY

With breathtaking views and shots to be captured, carrying a great camera is ideal to get memories of lifetime. If night camp is the plan, travelers may consider carrying campfire stuff, marinated food and experience a breezy night by the fire.

Stargazing may require carrying sufficient mats as per choice. Packing considerations include good footwear for hiking and climbing, floaters or casual slippers for the water side, plenty of drinking water, good quality sunscreen, hats/caps, swimming clothes, towels etc.

TREK CONSIDERATIONS

A lesser-known aspect of this place is that it also provides ample opportunity for trekking and is a somewhat easier trek. The pathways are relatively straighter, with gentle slopes which are easier to climb. Carrying a light backpack with basic stuff for swimming etc after reaching the beach area may be considered.

THINGS TO AVOID

The travelers at all times should avoid disturbing the animals moving around the area. Avoid going too close to the cliff to take that ‘one-shot’ as it may be risky at certain points. Since it is a popular weekend destination, group visits may be avoided during the present health scenario.

SIGNING OFF TIP

The soil here is a bit loose, and one may need to be extra cautious while trekking. And let us not forget to collect back the litter inadvertently strewn while having a gala time there. This helps preserve the natural charm the place offers, and mother earth feels happy too!
