The much-anticipated 10-day Covid figures released on Sunday offered a breather to the population who were confined to their homes during the Eid al Adha holidays.

The Ministry of Health on Sunday reported 4,912 new cases and 255 deaths over the past 10 days.

The total number of cases registered in the Sultanate has now reached 293,954, including 3,753 deaths.

The number of inpatients at various hospitals in Oman dropped by nearly 64 per cent to 786, including 315 in intensive care units, from 1,215, including 444 in ICUs, on July 15. Sixty-eight patients were admitted to hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours.

The recovery rate has improved to 93.8 per cent, while 18,194 infected are still sick.

The Sultan Qaboos University Hospital in Muscat reported a decline in the bed occupancy rate to 57 per cent with 52 inpatients, while the total bed capacity is only 91.

There are 27 patients who require assisted ventilation, 11 on invasive medical ventilation, 15 on non-invasive medical ventilation, and 25 in Covid-19 wards without the need for assisted ventilation.

Meanwhile, the authorities have warned that the decision to reduce entry to complexes, shops, restaurants, and cafes to 50 per cent of its capacity is still in effect and those violating the decision will invite strict action and penalties.

"The decision to reduce the entry of visitors to complexes, shops, restaurants, and cafés to no more than 50 per cent of capacity. Children under 12 years of age will be allowed to enter malls and other commercial establishments," an official statement said.

The Ministry of Health resumed the national campaign for immunisation against Covid-19 in all governorates of the Sultanate.

The ministry called on the target groups to book “in advance” appointments through the electronic self-registration service through the Tarsoud Plus application or through the link “covid19.moh.gov.om” before heading to the immunisation centres in the various governorates of the Sultanate to ensure a safe and accessible immunisation process for all.
