The results of the total lockdown of last week and the extended lockdown will only be visible in the coming weeks, according to experts associated with the Ministry of Health (MoH).
They said it will speed up recovery and nobody is safe from the coronavirus as long as everyone is safe.
"One cannot expect the results of any preventive measure immediately. The results of the lockdown will only be visible after two weeks from now," said Dr Mahmood al Rahbi, Head of Emergencies at Al Nahda Hospital.
"The result of the lockdown will begin to show only after 2 weeks and expecting any positive outcome so soon is not rational," said Dr Ramla al Qassabi, a senior consultant.
The common sentiment among the people is that lockdown was a timely step and hoped that the situation would come under control soon.
"I think we have already started seeing the results. Our hospital admissions and ICU occupancy due to Covid started declining last week," said Dr Benny Panakkan, head of a private hospital in Ruwi, adding that "hopefully in the coming weeks we’ll see more reductions in cases provided the lockdown is not withdrawn."
"I feel the result of these measures will be visible in the coming days. However, in case the people have not followed the decisions of the Supreme Committee then the results will surely be seen with or without testing,” said Dr Viresh Chopra, Oman Dental College.
According to Dr Dilip Singhvi, Specialist Internal Medicine, total lockdown would curb the transmission of virus as partial lockdown causes a lot of crowding in malls, public places and the like. "The fall in the number of admissions and the number of critical care patients will take time provided viral transmission is controlled.”
