Vaccination for people aged above 18 years will resume at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre on Sunday, and those who are eligible to receive the jabs under this target group can register online, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

"We will resume the vaccination drive, which was stopped due to the lockdown, on Sunday. All eligible under this category can complete their registration procedure starting on Saturday morning," a statement from the ministry has noted.

Registration can be done by logging on to http://covid19.moh.gov.om and get their name enrolled in the vaccination registry at the OCEC.

Meanwhile, the four-day-long complete lockdown will end on Saturday morning with the evening closure of commercial activities from 5pm. The partial lockdown will be applicable to the movement of vehicles and people, as announced earlier announcement, until July 31.

It is expected that total lockdown during Eid holidays would contribute towards checking the spread of the Covid pandemic.

"We are happy to have refrained from going out and mingling with people during the Eid holidays and honestly pray that this pandemic would end soon," Khalfan al Tobi, a citizen living in Al Hail, said.

However, people have been urged to continue the Covid protocols and keep taking precautions as they used to do in the past.

"All citizens and expatriates should continue to take precautions and wear facemasks while social distancing and other precautions need to be followed," the MoH has reminded the people.

The World Health Organization (WHO) had, in its recent public online conference, said that the pandemic would end only when the world unanimously choose to end the same.

"The coronavirus spread and the pandemic will end only when the world chooses to end it, because the solutions are in our hands," Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the WHO.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the WTO - WHO High Level Dialogue: Expanding COVID-19 Vaccine Manufacture To Promote Equitable Access online, he said 19 months into the pandemic, and 7 months since the first vaccines were approved we are still nowhere.

"The development, approval and rollout of safe and effective vaccines against Covid-19 less than a year after the first reported cases is a stunning scientific achievement, and a much-needed source of hope for bringing the pandemic under control."

According to the WHO, the Delta variant is wreaking havoc around the world and we are in the early stages of another wave of infections and deaths.

"We have all the tools we need: proven public health and social measures; rapid and accurate diagnostics; effective therapeutics including oxygen; and of course, powerful vaccines."
