Art has always been used as a getaway for many people to express their emotions and communicate thoughts, for both artists and non-artists. Art is historically considered one of the most effective ways to show inner feelings.

The exposure of an artist’s private self and inner thoughts is very intimate because it reflects the inner state of the artist, which can help create art that people can relate to.

While there are so many rising artists in Oman, it’s important for photographers to find their style and something that makes them stand out of the rest, for them to get noticed by the community.

Abdulaziz Abdullah, 21-year-old, self-taught photographer, chose to convey his emotions through art out loud.

He started his career in expressive drawing. According to Liveabout.com, expressive drawing often communicates ideas or emotions that are not visible or tangible. expressive drawings may capture movement and energy, feelings, memories, or even the spiritual realm.

He soon shifted to photography using whatever was available and tangible around him. After experimenting with photography, he realized that it is better than drawing because it can translate his thoughts is a better way. Learning how to take pictures for him came after a long process of rebuilding ideas that failed countless times.

He said, he has had a hard time expressing his emotions through words and was very happy to find a creative and fun outlet.

Owning a camera is the last thing he thinks of, even though he is a professional photographer, Abdulaziz most often borrows a camera from his friends to create his art because the content and the message behind the pictures is what matters the most.

“Expressing myself through art is my love language to myself,” he said.

He considers his style to be very realistic and inspired by what he experiences in his everyday life.

His drive and passion comes from his pent-up energy, where he analyzes what he and the youth of his generation go through from obstacles that can prevent them from being creative and directing their energy to the right place.

As a young Omani artist, his vision is to embody the youth of the past with a modern touch and mix elements from the past to the present.

One of his photographs that Abdulaziz features in is called “Habayb club”, the idea behind it is having a club where people who are scared or uncomfortable to express their emotional feelings, which is a very common phenomenal in the Arab community. Every object in the project is a symbol to something specific. The pink Kummah with hearts embroidered on it (traditional Oman cap), symbolizes the harmony of love with the traditional clothes and the traditions. The blood-red love potion that is shown in the picture is a magical drink that makes the fears go away and gives courage to express ones’ feelings, and the glass ends up breaking on the floor.

Abdulaziz encourages young people like him to never give up, and to create beauty out of a struggle. He said that our community is filled with challenges that can be overcome through any type of art.

Some of his favorite photographers that he gets a lot of ideas and inspiration from are: @mahmood_zadjali, @mouslamrabat, @spacemanone
