Oman futsal team to take part in Thailand tourney

Oman futsal team will take part at the friendly international futsal tournament in Thailand during August. The Sultanate team, under supervision of the national experienced coach Younis al Fahdi, is gearing up to participate in the qualification of AFC Asian Futsal Championship in Kuwait in 2022. The qualifications will take place in April 2022.


Ahead of travelling to Bangkok city, the national futsal team will begin a domestic camp soon after receiving a final confirmation from the Sports Ministry and Oman Football Association (OFA).


The camp is vital for the team members to continue in their preparatory programme and shape the players’ readiness for the Asian assignment. It was supposed that coach Younis al Fahadi’s men would participate in another friendly tournament in Iran during July. However, the friendly tournament in the Tehran city was cancelled due to the current Covid-19 situation in many countries.


Thailand International futsal tournament in August will act as an alternative preparatory event instead of cancelled tournament in Iran. Many of tough Asian futsal teams are expected to attend the friendly tournament in Thailand.


The 2021 Fifa Futsal World Cup in Lithuania, which is scheduled to take place from September 12 to October 3, will feature participation of Thailand in Group C alongside to Portugal, Morocco, and Solomon Islands. The other Asian nations which will take part in the world futsal championship include Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and IR Iran.


The Sultanate futsal team was absent from training for the last five months after the cancellation of the 2020 AFC Asian Futsal Championship in Kuwait but the host country Kuwait will have all the rights to host the forthcoming edition in 2022.


The previous squad of the Oman futsal team included the following probables: Ammar al Busaidy, Hisham al Wahaibi, Waleed al Farsi, Abdulaziz al Raqadi, Mohammed al Lawati, Samer al Balushi, Khalfan al Maawali, Mansoor al Hadi, Muhannad al Shibli, Essa al Balushi, Mohammed al Adawi, Loay al Wahaibi, Mutasim al Shamsi, Zamil al Balushi, Mukhaled al Raqadi and Abdullah al Wahaibi.
