Muscat: Oman ranked 3rd in the Arab world and 21st globally out of 193 countries in the Global Cybersecurity Index 2020, according to a report issued by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The Sultanate moved up from 0.86 points in the 2018 index to 0.96 points in the 2020 index (12% increase). Despite the progress, the Sultanate fell five ranks in the global ranking compared to the last version of the report.

The cybersecurity index focuses on information security, ensuring privacy and protecting the confidentiality of personal information, and taking all necessary measures to protect citizens and users from the dangers of cyberspace.

The ITU indicator is based on five standards: legal, technical, regulatory, capacity building and the cooperation standard.

The Sultanate scored 20 points in the legal standard for cybersecurity, 16.64 points in the technical standard, 20 points in the regulatory standard, and 20 points in the capacity building standard and 19.40 points in the cooperation index. --ONA
