The Ministry of Health plans to cover all target segments aged 12 and above, which stands for 70 per cent of the Sultanate’s population. The vaccination process will be carried out in stages, depending on the arrival of supplies of Covid-19 vaccines and in line with the goals set for the National Immunization Strategy.
She further said that the vaccination campaigns are showing heavy turnouts, and the ministry would achieve the targets.
"We organise vaccination campaigns for various target groups. The results are visible from the long queues in front of the vaccination centres."
Oman began to vaccinate the first target group of people some six months ago. The groups included people above 65 years, people suffering from chronic diseases, frontline workers including medical staff and the like at various schools, etc.
The mass vaccination camp for people above 45 years of age began at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre on June 20. The ministry has kept on adding more target groups and more government departments, ministries and public authorities in the past few days, and the latest among the target group is the youngsters above 18.
"We encourage the public to get vaccinated according to the dates and times allotted to each sector, and to be a part of the nation building march and to ignore the negative news as no scientific proof has been identified to support the fake claims that vaccines have side effects," the ministry representative added.
