MUSCAT: Port of Salalah has announced the launch of global shipping giant Maersk’s Flex Hub facility at the maritime gateway — a solution that enables shippers to manage the flow of cargo based on their demand patterns by allowing them to store their goods at a port of their choice based on the proximity of their key target markets. Subsequently shippers can transport their goods directly from the Flex Hub port whenever they are ready.

Shippers are looking for faster deliveries and shorter transit times, whilst ensuring the lowest possible cost for shipments, to ensure that they meet their customers’ demands.

Port of Salalah provides the flex hub facility in cooperation with Maersk as a vital client to the port and as an integrator container logistics company.

Mark Hardiman, CEO of Port of Salalah stated: “Port of Salalah is constantly looking for new opportunities and innovative solutions to cater to our clients’ needs. We optimise our strategic location serving the East West trade and realizing the vast capabilities and opportunities this gives us in contributing to the world trade. Flex Hub is a great initiative by Maersk and we, at Port of Salalah, are pleased to offer this solution to enable our clients to reach their key target markets in an optimum time and at much lower costs. In this day and time, when everyone is looking for faster and efficient solutions, Flex hub is definitely the way to go in order to achieve that.”

Christopher Cook, Managing Director, Maersk UAE commented, “During the pandemic our customers have faced significant variations in demand as countries faced staggered lockdowns. Our Flex Hub solution allows our customers the flexibility to speed up or slow down their supply chains depending on the need from the market whilst keeping visibility through a single platform with a variety of strategic hubs around the world. By building in resilience in the supply chains, we are simplifying our customers’ business.”

The Port continues to actively contribute to Oman’s 2040 vision and objective and support Oman’s economic diversification strategy.
