

Muscat: Oman has reported an average of 1.42 deaths per hour due to Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, while all-round appeal to follow preventive measures has gained momentum.
Thirty-four deaths were reported in 24 hours as the number of new registered cases touched an average of 86 per hour as 2,047 new cases were registered in the past 24 hours, two days after the Supreme Committee reimposed night lockdown from 8 pm to 4 am.
The TPR (Test Positive Rate) of Covid-19 cases is showing an upward move, and experts say the trend is on a dangerous shift.
The report further suggests that 203 were hospitalised over the past 24 hours taking the total number of current hospitalised patients to 1,531, and 445 are in intensive care units (ICUs).
“We are experiencing higher rates of casualties and cases. ICUs are packed to capacity and general treatment options are reduced to minimal as cases of the new mutant increased since weeks,” medical director of a private hospital, has said.
Wednesday’s figures brought the total number of positive Covid-19 cases to 254,656, while the total number of deaths reached 2,816, the Ministry of Health said. According to official sources, a total number of 222,344 patients have recovered as 1,094 new cases recovered on Tuesday.
“This is the time we need to double our care against the deadly disease, and all citizens and residents, please stay indoors and don’t step out unless it’s really necessary. Also, follow hygiene standards as well as continue wearing masks,” the ministry has advised.
IMMUNISATION
The Ministry of Health is continuing to vaccinate people aged 45-year-old and above against Covid-19 in all governorates of the Sultanate as part of the National Immunisation Campaign.
On Wednesday, vaccination centres in all governorates witnessed excellent turnout from the target group, which reflects the great societal awareness of immunisation against Covid-19.
Al Sahil Health Centre in the Wilayat of Qurayat. Dr Ambareen al Balushi, a senior medical specialist and the field manager of the Immunisation Centre at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, said in a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA) that the centre witnessed high turnout from the targeted categories, noting that around 3,000 people are vaccinated a day. A number of vaccinated people commended the smoothness of the procedures at the centre. They further praised the efforts exerted by the government for the health and safety of citizens and residents in the Sultanate. The Ministry of Health seeks to vaccinate all targeted categories aged 12 years and above (70 per cent of the population), and this will be implemented in phases according to the vaccine supplies as per the ministry’s National Strategy for Immunisation against Coronavirus (Covid-19).
