Those going for vaccination should inform the health officials or the volunteers at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre about any pre-existing medical condition, allergies, pregnancy, or any other condition for the staff to advise the precautions while vaccinating, said the Ministry of Health. While a pregnant woman can take vaccine within strict preventive measures in her second or third trimester, others will be advised about their vaccination programme by an expert.

“People who come for vaccination should alert the registration counter if they are suffering from any diseases or having a severe allergy or being pregnant. The public should bear in mind that they should register all medical condition or inform the front desk if they are suffering from any of these, said Dr Zainab al Balushi, Head of Infection and Prevention Control at the ministry.

This is the first time a mass vaccination campaign has begun on Sunday through an online registration is carried out aiming at people from all professions above 45 years of age.

“We have reached a stage where people above 45 years can be vaccinated against Covid-19 from the community. When we prepared the plans to begin the vaccination at the OCEC, infection control and prevention was put in the first place. This would help people get themselves vaccinated in the safest environment. Several important measures were added to be followed at the entrance, and those who register should disclose their ailments or any allergy,” adds Dr Zainab.

A certain category of medical cases will not be allowed to enter the vaccination centre if they are in quarantine or have travelled abroad, or were exposed to a confirmed coronavirus case or those who have symptoms like fever or respiratory tract infection.

Speaking to the Observer, Dr Lamya al Balushi, Director, Diseases Surveillance and Control Department at the ministry, said that more women are coming for getting their jab than men. More people are expected to come to the OCEC in the coming days, according to her.

Nearly 60 booths which can accommodate more than 4,000 people a day are sent, and this can be increased to 10,000 as the need be.

“As many as five to seven thousand people can be vaccinated in a day at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre where the mass vaccination programme through online registration got under way on Sunday. This capacity can be further enhanced to 10,000 depending upon the demand in the coming days,” she added.

Vaccination in Oman started six months ago for selected target groups, including people above 65 years, people suffering from chronic diseases, frontline workers, and medical staff. To get vaccinated, one needs to download Tarassud plus app and go to self-registration.
