The vaccination drive for the new target group of 45 years of age and above commenced on Sunday with long queues reported on the roads leading to the venue.
Dr. Zainab bint Abdul Razzaq Al Balushi, a specialist in public health at the Ministry of Health, said that the immunization drive at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre receives the target group of 45 years of age and above, provided that there is prior registration and an appointment for immunization, noting that there is a large turnout of those targeted in the campaign since the early morning.
She said that this turnout reflects the great societal awareness of the importance of taking anti-Covid 19 vaccines, noting that the immunization center includes two main halls for men and women, bringing the number of rooms to approximately 60 rooms.
"The traffic movement requires more than police standing at the entrance to the parking lot. Inside the centre, it is however well-organized," said a visitor who registered for vaccination today.
One citizen suggested that other venues should have been also opened, especially the big ones like the Bausher stadium.
Timings changed
Meanwhile, in line with the decisions of the Supreme Committee to impose a night lockdown, the Directorate General of Health Services in Muscat announced the changes in the timings of administration of vaccines at various centers.
The new target groups include the age group 45 years and above under package two.
Timings for vaccination at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (Weekdays from Sunday to Thursday) are 8 am to 6 pm and 9 am - 4 pm during weekends.
Timings for Sahel Health Center in Quriyat are 8 am and 2 pm.
Drive-thru
The drive-thru vaccination campaign has been suspended until further notice, the Ministry of Health informed on Saturday.
The decision is based on the Supreme Committee directive to prevent the movement of individuals and vehicles between 8 pm and 4 am, starting from June 20, 2021.
