Muscat, June 19

Dr Mansour bin Sultan al Touqi, Chairman of Oman Paralympic Committee (OPC), said that the committee is under continuation of its plans to enhance the capabilities of the talented players through external camps, with an aim of raising their technical levels.

“OPC has sought to provide the appropriate environment for the preparation of players including Mohammed al Mashaykhi, who is currently preparing for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games, which will be held next August, for which he qualified among six players in the world for the first qualification of the Sultanate without a white card,” he added.

The chief of OPC appreciated the support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and supporters from the private sector.

“OPC set up a preparation camp for the player, which began with an external camp two months ago in Morocco, during which Muhammad al Mashaykhi went for an intensive training programme under direct supervision of the head coach of the national team, Sonia Mustafa. Taha al Harrasi was also in the overseas camp in Morocco under the supervision of his coach Al Sakri. The purpose of the camps was continuation of the intensive training programmes and giving them greater training doses and preparing them perfectly for the upcoming events. Then, the players of the national team and the technical staff moved to a second external preparatory camp in Tunisia which is underway until today,”

The chairman of OPC affirmed that the national Paralympics team will take part in “Fazza” International Powerlifting Championship for disability people in Dubai from June 18 to 25.

“The national team will be represented by Fadel bin Nasser al Hadi, who is ranked internationally and he is currently in the championship under the supervision of Adnan al Owaidi, member of the Oman Paralympic Committee,” he ended.
