For the first time since the Sultanate began its fight against Covid-19, the highest number of single-day death toll of 35 was registered on Thursday. During the day, 2,015 new cases were reported, bringing the total number of positive cases to 242,723 in the Sultanate.

The Ministry of Heath (MoH) said the total number of deaths has hit 2,626. While 1,072 recovered, bringing the total recoveries to 213,880 so far, 182 people were hospitalised over the past 24 hours. There are 1,306 Covid-19 cases admitted to various hospitals, of whom 382 are in intensive care units (ICUs).

“The onus is on the public. Taking preventive measures, wearing masks properly, sanitising hands, avoiding unnecessary visits, and keeping distance from others are a few measures that we repeatedly make the public aware of. It’s time to stick to the preventive rules before we regret for the violations,” a senior doctor commented.

These figures are disturbing and the public needs to be more careful and follow preventive measures with due diligence.

“Cases are increasing and ICU admissions are on the rise. We may have to take stringent measures if the scenario continues like this,” Dr Nabil al Lawati, Head of the Field Hospital, said earlier.

REGISTER ONLINE FOR JAB

Meanwhile, people have been urged to register online for their turn to get vaccinated, a statement from the MoH said.

The electronic booking for appointments can be done via the website http://covid19.moh.gov.om, which can be accessed through Tarassud + application. The ministry urged the segment targeted by the Second Package (those aged 45 years and above), beginning on Sunday, to book their appointments in advance, before going to the government centres approved to administer the vaccination in different governorates of the Sultanate. The service aims to ensure safe and convenient vaccination for all.

The iconic Oman Convention and Exhibition Center (OCEC) has been arranged after weeks-long preparations to welcome people in masses within the Covid-19 protocol and help the nation triumph in the battle against Covid-19.

The major vaccination drive following the public vaccination campaign kick-started some two weeks ago at four major centres in the Muscat Governorate will be able to immunise hundreds of people simultaneously, according to the MoH. The Sultanate aims to vaccinate 1.5 million people by end of June.

Besides OCEC, various sports complexes in the Governorate of Muscat, as well as schools and sports complexes in other governorates are currently converted into vaccination centres for public.

Additionally, various mobile teams are formed to immunise all workers in government institutions, and to provide Covid-19 vaccines to the private sector through clinics in large companies, and in private health, institutions licensed to administer the vaccine.

Timing at the OCEC is from 8am to 2pm and 3pm to 9pm on weekdays and from 9am to 4pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
