MUSCAT: The 30th edition of COMEX – Oman’s official technology show – came to a successful end on June 15, 2021, with the participation of scores of government and private sector organisations, including leading local and international players in the ICT and digitalisation domains.


The fortnight-long virtual event was endorsed by Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) and supported by OPAL — Oman Society for Petroleum Services, Ministry of Higher Education and Ministry of Education.


Amr Abdullah Baabood, CEO of Arabian Research Bureau (ARB/OITE), the organising company, commented: “Covid restrictions made us innovate and the exhibition, conference, workshops, awards and seminars were held completely virtual, modelling the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre living spaces. The platform was developed using Artificial Intelligence – AI, 3D 360 Degree modelling, the algorithms had real time physics which allowed exhibitors and visitors to connect and communicate with audio, video calls and type chat in a virtual environment in a similar way one would do at a real exhibition.


The event was accessible on computer browser, apple and android app with a gaming like experience making it first technology expo developed on advanced technologies.”


Taking part in the virtual exhibition were Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, Ingram Micro, Cisco, Oman Data Park SAOC – ODP, Omantel, Ooredoo, Datamount, Trendmicro, Huawei, and Oman Broadband Company, among others.


At the conclusion of the forum, the following participants received COMEX Awards for Excellence in Technology: BIG DATA – Omantel; TELECOM – Omantel; ICT INVENTION – eBinaa; ICT INNOVATION –UVL Robotics; DATA CENTRES — Oman Data Park; VR — ASM Technologies LLC; MOBILE APPLICATION –Omantel; SOCIAL MEDIA — National Life & General Insurance Company; START UP — iNNOVATEQ; CYBER SECURITY — Oman Data Park; COMEX STAR EXHIBITOR AWARD — Oman Data Park; and BEST of BEST award — Omantel and Oman Data Park SAOC.


Sadiq Khan, Chief Operating Officer — ARB/OITE, said: “COMEX successfully hosted the virtual exhibition with over 80 exhibitors. The COMEX Ai Conference, Fintech seminars and workshops featured more than 60 speakers and 600 delegates, in addition to 150 students taking part from schools as speakers and presenters.


The COMEX Technology Awards for Excellence are now set a new benchmark for corporate companies to aim while they work towards the ICT market demands and the government visions to transform Oman into a regional and global player.”


The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology organised workshops at COMEX Virtual. Topics included: Cyber Security, Drones in Logistics, Tarassud app, Tech Startups Challenges, E-Census, Internet Child Protection, Breast Cancer systems, Modern Methods of E-blackmailing, Chatbots, VR in Workplace, VR into Business, Enterprise Architecture, Data Governance and IOT.
