

The Rustaq Charitable Team of the Social Development Committee in the Wilayat of Rustaq in the South Al Batinah Governorate has been one of the leading teams in the field of voluntary work and social solidarity in the Sultanate for 21 years. Its community projects, which numbered more than twenty, touched the needs of a group of the poor, the needy, orphans, the social security category, and those with limited income.
The team’s revenues in 2020 amounted to 700,000 Omani riyals, from which more than two thousand families from various regions and villages of the Wilayat of Rustaq benefited.
During the recent period, it has implemented a number of investment projects that enabled it to carry out its societal roles to the fullest. In this context, Hafedh Al Hanawi, deputy head of the Rustaq Charitable Team, said “The Rustaq Charitable Team is a seed of good that was planted 21 years ago, during which it grew little by little until it grew and became a fruitful tree that benefited a large number of segments of society.
Al Hanawi stated that the team’s work began within the programs of the Cultural Committee at Al-Rustaq Club in 2000, and the cash and in-kind proceeds at that time were few within the limits of 1,350 Omani riyals, in addition to a small number of food parcels, stressing that the team’s revenues are increasing year after year until it reached in 2020 seven hundred thousand Omani riyals.
He added that the team was included through several stages and several names, the last of which was the Social Solidarity Team of the Cultural Committee at Al-Rustaq Sports Club, it is listed in the Social Development Committee in the wilayat. It is headed by Wali Al-Rustaq in order to develop, expand and organize its work mechanism according to a new vision and identity, and the team was announced Officially on May 16, 2016.
Al Rustaq Charitable Team aims to achieve the principle of social solidarity among members of society and translate it into a tangible reality by alleviating the suffering of poor families, instilling the value of spending among members of society. This is in addition to bringing joy and pleasure into the hearts of the needy, and accustoming people to institutional collective work in the social field according to the vision of the team which stems from the principle of working in the spirit of one team to achieve social solidarity among all segments of society.
He pointed out that the number of members of the team consists of 125 members, in addition to the 12-member board of directors. The team has 5 bank accounts and supervises more than 60 donation boxes distributed among commercial centres, libraries, and mosques.
He stated that the team had formed several committees, including The Families Study Committee, the Admission Committee, the Media Committee, the Coordination and Follow-up Committee, the Sharia Committee, the Finance Committee, the Funds Management and Revenue Development Committee, and the Maintenance Committee, the Orphans Committee, the Endowment Committee, and the Women’s Committee. He noted that the Rustaq charitable team works in cooperation and coordination with the Zakat Committee in the wilayat within the scope and boundaries of the Wilayat of Rustaq.
The deputy head of the Al-Rustaq Charitable Team explained that the team developed a plan to implement and own a number of investment projects, namely the charitable endowment project to find private endowments, the proceeds of which go to the team’s programs and projects.
Saleh Al Sakhbouri, head of the team’s media committee, said that the Al Rustaq Charitable Team has become a link between donors and those eligible for donations through central distribution at the wilayat level according to a specific and clear mechanism. He stressed that the team’s projects have received great interaction from citizens and government and civil institutions over the past years because of the trust gained by this team from different segments of society. On the media aspects of the team, he said: The media committee is working to acquaint community members with charitable projects and their goals and promote them and urge people to donate through publications that are published through the team’s accounts on social media, stressing that they enjoy great interaction and response from community members.
He pointed out that the team works in partnership with all institutions that have a role in voluntary and charitable work, whether governmental or private, in order to improve work and promote it in order to provide financial and in-kind assistance to the needy through programs and projects established by the team.
The team provided food aid during the Covid-19 pandemic, which included most of the affected families, as well as the expatriates who were affected by the closure of their stores, and the aid of citizens who were dismissed from their jobs.
the team relies on several sources of income to implement these projects, the most important of which are: the daily and seasonal contributions of individuals, the contributions of private institutions, and the rents collected from the team’s endowment buildings. the team has a number of projects and participation, the most important of which are: building prayer rooms in Al-Rustaq Public Park, organizing the first and second mass wedding in the wilayat, celebrating the International Orphan Day, in addition to participating in the activities of the International Volunteer Day and the Omani Volunteer Day.
