Small and Medium Enterprises (Riyada) continues to inspire many Omanis to create their own business and the encouragement has allowed for Omani products to become successful not only locally but they are also starting to find their footing in the international market.

This has been the case for small business owner Samira al Lamkiyah whose perfume and incense business has allowed her to find a great purpose for her time while juggling responsibilities at home.

Samira has started her career in perfumery and frankincense/incense production by attending training courses for the manufacture of perfumes and incense conducted by the Omani Women’s Association in Rustaq.

The association has been training women like Samira to find an extension of themselves through productive projects like learning handicrafts or perfumer business.

After learning the course, Samira has decided to use the knowledge that she earned by jumping into the business of perfumery and incense production seriously.

She indicated that she buys materials and components from Muttrah and Suhar. She said that after learning the basics, she eventually found her way into the small and medium enterprises division of Riyada and after a series of conversations, she became a full-pledged entrepreneur after obtaining a commercial registration from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Investment Promotion.

Samira said that she developed and branched out to other specialties ending up with a variety of products that has their niche markets. Not long after, she has started to export her 47 products abroad. The prices of boxes range between 5 to 15 Omani riyals.

Today, Samira’s business has picked up and to give back to the community, she conducts workshops in the manufacturing of incense and perfumes for female students in several schools.
