Khoula Hospital repairs seventh nerve for six-year child

Muscat: The unit for the seventh nerve surgeries in Khoula Hospital has successfully repaired the seventh nerve of a 6-year girl child in two phases.


Dr Shaikhan Nasser al Hashmi, Senior Consultant Plastic and Head of Plastic Surgery Department said: "The first phase was performed by transplant the nerve in the infected half of her face, while the second phase by transplant a muscle tissue from the thigh to the infected part of the face by the microscopic procedure".


He further added "Six months later, the child has moved her paralyzed part of her face for the first time since her birth.


Dr Al Hashmi pointed out that the seventh nerve surgeries also include other procedures such as restoring the ability to close the eye, as well as to smile.


The child's parents expressed their thanks to the hospital and praised the medical care provided for their child. --ONA
