Muscat swelters on hottest day this season

With maximum temperatures in Muscat touching 46 °C on Tuesday, people were warned to take all precautions in the coming days, especially by taking more liquids.


Temperatures in Suhar were around 47 °C, while Salalah was coolest at 32°C.


"Clear to partly cloudy on the coastal strip of Dhofar Governorate and the surrounding mountains, with intermittent rain falling and generally clear over the rest of the Sultanate’s governorates, with the possibility of low clouds forming at the end of the night and early morning over parts of the Al Wusta Governorate," the Met forecast said.


Workers should be not employed at construction sites and open areas between 12.30 and 3.30 pm in the peak summer months of June, July and August, an online statement issued by the Ministry of Labour said.


As per Article 16 on the regulations for occupational safety and health, “The workers shall be not employed in the construction sites or high-temperature locations during afternoon hours from 12.30 pm to 3.30 pm throughout June, July, and August every year.


According to the company law, in the event of the existence of any danger which threatens the safety and health of the workers, the ministry shall take necessary measures to stop the work wholly or partially or to stop the operation of one or more machinery until the elimination of the causes of such danger.
