Oman takes part in Tourism Recovery Summit

MUSCAT: Oman, represented by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, is taking part in the Tourism Recovery Summit, which opened in Riyadh on Wednesday alongside the formal inauguration of the Middle East Regional Office of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). The two-day summit has been organised by the UNWTO Committee for the Middle East. Oman’s delegation is led by Salim bin Mohammed al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism.


Taking part in the summit are the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization and the ministers of tourism in the Middle East representing Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.


The meeting will discuss several topics, including the report of the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization, the coordinated protocol standards for the Middle East region, nominations and elections for the basic organs and their subsidiaries, and reviews of WTO projects.


During the Tourism Recovery Summit, the experiences of various countries in the tourism sector and the challenges facing the industry due to the pandemic will be reviewed and solutions will be developed.


On the sidelines, Oman’s Minister of Heritage and Tourism will also hold bilateral talks with a number of participants. — ONA
