Tawi Ateer is a mountainous village that has multiple beautiful tourist spots in the Wilayat of Mirbat in the Governorate of Dhofar, located 26 kilometres to the northwest of the city centre of Mirbat.

Tawi Ateer is located to the north of Thamrait, and to the east of Jabal Samhan, and can be reached through Aqbat Ghadiya road and Aqbat Hasheer road.

The areas of Tawi Ateer are affected by the khareef season, as are other areas of the Dhofar mountains, and the wide grassy areas are the most prominent thing that can be seen here. Tawi Ateer is one of the most important areas because it is where most clays used in pottery industries are sourced from.

One of the famous places of tourism in the mountain is Ateer Well (the bird Well) which has gained international fame since its discovery in 1997 by the Slovenian adventurers’ team in cooperation with Sultan Qaboos University as one of the largest dissolving sinkholes in the world, which increases the rich balance of environmental, geographical, historical, archaeological monuments and cultural components in the Dhofar Governorate.

14 km from the Tawi Ateer, the visitors meet with Teeq which contains the Teeq sinkhole. Teeq Sinkhole is about 975 thousand cubic metres. Its diameter is between 130 to 150 metres and its depth is 211 metres. The flow of water along the wadi that flows into the sinkhole has dissolved the rocks, and thus helped the formation of the magnificent waterfalls located along the intersection with the Teeq sinkhole. There is also Teeq cave near the top of the sinkhole with a volume of approximately 170 thousand cubic metres.
