

SALALAH: The second GCC conference on Coronavirus Pandemic and Sustainable Development in the GCC countries “Repercussions and Innovation Opportunities” kicked off on Sunday via video-conferencing. The two-day conference, organised by Dhofar University, explores the roles of researchers and scholars in crisis management and spreading awareness in order to converge views and exchange knowledge in a manner that serves humanity and achieves envisaged sustainable development goals (SDGs) in light of Covid-19. The conference highlights five themes covering the social, educational, economic, health and legal challenges. The conference also includes 25 papers presented by experts and academics from Dhofar University and Sultan Qaboos University, in addition to keynote speakers and participants from different GCC universities. The conference aims to shed light on the main challenges facing the GCC countries due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and proposing solutions to counter obstacles resulting from the pandemic. The opening ceremony of the conference was held under the auspices of Dr Bakhait bin Ahmed al Mahri, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation for Higher Education. — ONA
