Sri Lanka has closed its airports and borders for all inbound international passengers for 10 days from May 21, according to the country’s Civil Aviation Authority.

The decision was announced after the island nation reported a record single-day high of 3,051 COVID-19 cases. The country’s main carrier, Sri Lankan Airlines, posted a notice on its website saying, “All online and offline carriers at all international airports in Sri Lanka will not permit disembarking passengers into Sri Lanka with effect until11.59 pm on May 31, with a view to controlling the COVID-19 situation in the country.

Aircraft departures with passengers, aircraft emergency diversions, freighter operations and humanitarian flights, technical landings, inbound flights (without passengers) and passengers transiting for less than 12 hours with a confirmed ticket destined to an onward destination.
