Easing restrictions and thus helping normal life gain the lost rhythm gradually doesn’t mean people can take Covid-19 preventive measures for granted, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

Instead, all should take additional care against the spread of the virus as the number of cases increased with the country recording 802 new cases on Thursday.

“All people have an important responsibility of following the Covid measures announced by the authorities from time to time,” a source at the MoH said.

“Make sure one wears the mask properly and cleans his or her hands from time to time either with soap and water or with an approved sanitizer. Additionally, keeping social distance from one another too is crucial and one ought not to step out unless it’s absolutely necessary because gatherings can accelerate the spread. Ultimately, the safety is in one’s own hands,” the source added.

The total number of infected with the virus rose to 208,607 while the number of recovered people touched 192,973 with 775 cases of recovery on Thursday.

However, 11 people who were in critical care died, bringing the total mortalities to 2,239.

There are 251 patients currently in intensive care units of various hospitals and 67 admitted while the total infections have risen to 13,395. The total admissions stand at 664.

Meanwhile, the Sultanate is making arrangements for vaccination against the pandemic. Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed al Saeedi, Minister of Health, had said that the Sultanate was expected to receive about 200,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccination every week with effect from June.

The shipments would arrive on a regular basis to meet the target of vaccinating 30-35 percent of citizens and residents by August 2021.

Dr. Al Saeedi also urged parents of Class 12 students to encourage their children to get Covid-19 vaccination as advised, since the virus attacks people of all age groups.
