MUSCAT: Acting in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO), the Sultanate will host a high-level regional meeting on Wednesday to explore the experiences of countries in the region in addressing coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

The meeting, due to be held via video-conferencing, aims to nurture ties between the region’s countries and enhance peace and stability.

Oman agreed to host the meeting on grounds of a recommendation of the UN Secretariat-General based on the Sultanate’s policies reputed for buoyancy to foster dialogue and peace and an ability to cement ties of international cooperation.

The meeting reflects the Sultanate’s foreign health policy, an example of which is the “Health for Peace” partnership initiative jointly undertaken by Oman, Switzerland and the WHO in 2019.

The move aimed to develop an international strategy to utilise health in creating rapprochement of views towards the settlement of disputes.

The meeting will reaffirm the Sultanate’s deep conviction in the principle of “Health for All”, irrespective of the conditions.

Meanwhile, as part of the ongoing consultation and joint action amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the GCC health under-secretaries held the 17th meeting to discuss the latest developments of the coronavirus pandemic at the regional and global levels.

Held via video-conferencing, the Sultanate was represented in the meeting by Dr Mohammed bin Saif al Hosni, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Health for Health Affairs.

The meeting discussed unifying terminologies and procedures that would facilitate the movement of citizens between the GCC states.

The meeting also highlighted the requirements of vaccinating the pilgrims and the conditions of their entering into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the Hajj season.

Furthermore, it discussed the requirements of the health passport and studying the gene sequencing test for Covid-19 samples.
