The Dhofar Governorate is famous exclusively for thin Dhofari bread, which is one of the popular foods that is constantly prepared in most homes.
Dhofari bread is prepared with ingredients that include water, flour, ghee, and sugar, in addition to Nigella Sativa or black cumin.
In the past, women obtained flour by grinding wheat grains with a milling mill, which is a primitive machine that grinds flour and grains. Working on it was a daunting task.
While the ghee was prepared at home in the past, it is now sourced from the market, including imported brands.
For preparing Dhofari bread, one needs to have a special often made of clay.
Fatima al Amiri, who has been preparing Dhofari bread, said, "There is a great demand by citizens and residents to buy bread on a daily basis. Demand increases during occasions like weddings or holidays and we start preparing a month before Eid to make large quantities and store them for delivery orders."
She said bread stays in good condition for a month and a half, except during autumn when it has to be used in two weeks due to high humidity.
