MUSCAT: Ahmed bin Abdullah al Alawi, who began his sculpture making journey 10 years ago, was bowled by three-dimensional models. He excels in the craft of carving on rocks, which is one of the oldest crafts practised by Omanis in the past.

In an interview to Oman News Agency, he said that he prefers craft sculpture which is based on the formation of three-dimensional models bearing ancient handicraft shapes such as pottery vessels, silver jewellery or some ancient stone shapes, and that handicraft sculpture differs from other types of sculpture because it depends on the speed of the craft of carving on rocks, as it highlights some of the ancient Omani heritage.

He added that the Omani environment is distinct and rich in many shapes, colours and various sizes of rocks. From this diversity, he was inspired by the idea of creativity in this art and made it an innovative professional way to highlight the original Omani heritage.
