Heavy rains, flash floods to continue today

There are chances of rain with occasional thundershowers associated with fresh downdraft winds and hail over Musandam, Dhofar, Al Hajar Mountains and adjoining areas towards afternoon extend to the coastal areas of Sea of Oman, the met department said.


The met has warned of reduced visibility during thundershowers, chances of hail and wadis,chances of blowing dust due to fresh wind, and rough sea conditions during a thundershower.


"Along the coastal areas of Oman Sea winds will be northeasterly light to moderate during day becoming variable light at night, and over the rest of the Sultanate, winds will be southerly to southeasterly light to moderate occasionally fresh changing during the evening to northwesterly moderate over AL Buraimi and AL Dhahira. And it will be very strong wind during a thundershower."


Heavy rains accompanied by active winds were reported from South al Batinah, Muscat, Al Dakhiliya, Al Batinah South and Muscat governorates late Tuesday and Wednesday.


"Rainy thunderstorms were experienced over the northern Wilayats of Al Batinah, accompanied by that led to the blowing of unstable objects and the rise of sea waves on the coastal areas of the Sea of ​​Oman with the flow of wadis," Oman Meteorology said.


The Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) in North al Batinah Governorate managed to rescue three people from a stranded heavy vehicle (trailer truck) in a valley and they are in good health.


Rescue teams in North Al-Batinah Governorate dealt with a number of reports of the collapse of parts of some houses due to strong winds in different areas of the governorate. No injuries were recorded.


Rescue teams in North Al-Batinah Governorate said that a person has been stranded at a wadi in the Wilayat of Saham.


Disruptions of electricity supply were also reported from some areas of Oman, said the distribution companies.
