Despite restrictions on commercial activities and night movement which started nearly a month ago, there seems to be no respite from the coronavirus as the Ministry of Health has reported 1,128 new cases and nine deaths on Tuesday.

The total death toll in Oman is nearing 2,000, as Tuesday’s figures took it to 1,992. So far, 1,446 Omanis and 546 expatriates have died of Covid in the country.

Of the fatalities, 1,270 were in the age group 60+ and 722 in the age group between 15 and 59. Also, 1,410 men have died of the virus compared to 582 women.

Ninety-three people were hospitalised during the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of inpatients in hospitals to 813, including 283 in intensive care units (ICUs).

The number of ICUs patients in Dhofar Governorate also increased from 35 to 41 by Sunday.

The total recovery cases reached 170,929, which is 89.3 per cent of the total cases reported.

LEGAL ACTION

The government also denied that Pfizer vaccines are available via the online black market in the Sultanate, and warned of legal action against those spreading the fake news.

Meanwhile, the total number of people who went for institutional quarantine since the beginning of this year reached 38,389, the Relief and Shelter Sector said.

Currently 1,186 people are in institutional quarantine as of April 25 in 609 centres across

the Sultanate.

Hammoud bin Muhammad al Mandhari, Relief and Shelter Sector Coordinator, said that all flights coming to the Sultanate through Muscat International Airport are pre-scheduled.

He said that the airport usually receives approximately 80 flights (both arrivals and departures) with around 2,500 to 3,000 passengers. All arrivals to the Sultanate are subject to the decisions of the Supreme Committee, including procedures for PCR tests at the airport, institutional isolation, and a test on the eighth day.

Regarding what was circulated on social media on April 24, about the arrival of 13 flights coming to Muscat International Airport, the coordinator said that the number of passengers who entered the Sultanate on that day was 4,926, and they were dealt with the same procedures.

He pointed out some violations at institutional isolation, such as failure to comply with isolation and exit from centres or removing the bracelets.
