Shura discusses prices at private health institutions

MUSCAT: The Office of Majlis Ash’shura discussed the Council of Ministers’ response to Majlis Ash’shura’s report about the classification of private health institutions and regulating the prices of the services rendered by the private healthcare sector.


In its response the Council of Ministers said that the Ministry of Health had previously prepared a categorisation of the private healthcare institutions.


Regarding the prices of service, the Council of Ministers said that the Capital Market Authority issued an administrative decision reforming a work team to study the prices of medical services in the private health sector, adding that a tender was floated to authorise a specialised company to study the prices. The bid evaluation process is currently under way to select the successful bidder who will prepare the study, it added.


The Office also reviewed the Council of Ministers’ response to the requests for discussion presented by Majlis Ash’shura to a number of government sectors.


At its 16th regular meeting held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Majlis Ash’shura Chairman, the Office of Majlis Ash’shura approved a request for briefing presented by Majlis Ash’shura to the minister of agriculture, fisheries and water resources regarding developing the agricultural sector. The Office decided to refer the request to the relevant entity.


The meeting reviewed a number of ministerial responses including from the minister of labour in response to a question about the Labour Law and the Civil Service Law. In his response the minister said that the ministry is currently working on the two draft laws in coordination with the relevant authorities in preparation for its presentation to the Council of Ministers.


Besides, the Office reviewed the response of the minister of energy and minerals to a request for briefing regarding reducing the cost of oil production and the gas procurement agreements with companies operating in the Sultanate.
