SALALAH: A training course titled ‘The media experience and professional journalist in natural crises’ was held in Salalah. This is part of the Arab Media Forum organised by the Omani Journalists Association (oja) in cooperation with the Union of Arab Journalists, and will continue for two days. The course programme, involves journalists from inside and outside the Sultanate, includes a number of students. The main topics dealt with how the professional journalists deal during natural crises, the experience of the Omani model, the coordination and relations and integration between the media and institutions.
The role of the government sector in the protection of society and the responsibility of media in dealing with victims. The programme also includes a discussion of journalistic ethics and means of countering rumours, namely fabricated news and media responsibility in promoting civil peace and psychological integrity during and after the crisis. The aim of the training course for Arab journalists is to learn about the Sultanate’s experience and crisis handling during tropical situations, highlight the active and influential role of the media and enhance the skills and capabilities of Arab journalists in dealing with crises and exchanging experiences between them. — ONA
