Al Wusta Cement Company LLC, a new cement producer which is developing the nation’s third cement plant in Duqm at a cost of RO 225 million, has decided to nominate Dr Abdullah Abbas Ahmed as Chairman of the new company and Ahmed bin Yousuf al Ibrahim as Vice-Chairman.

The announcement came during a meeting of the representatives of joint venture partners Raysut Cement Company (SAOG) and Oman Cement Company (SAOG), Acting CEO Salim Abdullah al Hajri, said in a filing to the Capital Market Authority (CMA) yesterday.

Earlier this month, Al Wusta Cement signed a usufruct agreement with the Special Economic Zone Authority of Duqm (SEZAD) for a lease of a 500,000 sq metre site at the industrial hub. Construction work on the new cement plant will commence next year with production expected to commence in 2020.

Capacity is envisaged at 5,000 tonnes per day of cement corresponding to a project size that will create a total of 389 jobs for Omanis and expatriates. Another option under consideration envisions an output of 10,000 tonnes per day with the potential to create 405 jobs.
