MUSCAT: The Oman Second Division football season ends today with Al Bashaer to lift the trophy.

Bashaer, with 19 points to their name, secured the title in the previous round.

The second division this year consisted of 8 teams, with the league split into two groups of 4 and eliminating one team from each group before playing a final group of 6.

All teams played each other twice in each group, one home and one away fixture.

Bashaer may be champions, but two more promotion slots remain — guaranteed to go to Majees and Wusta when they play each other today.

The fight for the slots is however crucial with the second placed team gaining automatic promotion while the team finishing third will have to play either Salalah or Ethifaq for a playoff, reducing their chances to get to the first division.

As they play each other, victory for either side means automatic qualification so it will be interesting to see which team makes the cut.

The prize ceremony for Bashaer will be attended today by Shaikh Salim al Wahaibi —Chairman of the Oman Football Association.
