MUSCAT, MAY 27 - Airlines resumed operations from Salalah Airport after two days of total shutdown due to the tropical weather conditions.

The efforts of employees of Salalah Airport came in for special appreciation for the smooth resumption of services immediately after the city was hit by heavy rainfall and thundershowers. “The modern Salalah Airport is equipped with advanced technological features that help it withstand any adverse conditions, including that of weather, effectively and with minimal damage,” said Ahmed, a passenger who had the opportunity to make an air travel to Salalah on Sunday itself.

Meanwhile, Oman Airports has urged users to take maximum precautions and follow-up all weather updates issued by the authorities. Oman Air in a statement said its operations to Nairobi, Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam are back to normal. The flight to Nairobi had to take a longer route on Friday and Saturday to avoid the tropical situation.

“Due to rising passenger demand, Oman Air upgraded its flights WY 901 and WY 902 to Salalah on an A330 aircraft, while an extra flight to/from Salalah (WY3801/WY3802) on Monday will be with a wide-body Boeing 787 Dreamliner.”  SalamAir, which resumed operations on Sunday, said that it will operate additional flights as per the demand and added that it will accept aid materials for families and friends in Salalah. Other airlines from the GCC operating out of Salalah said they will be resuming services from Salalah in cooperation with the local authorities.
