Capoeira championship begins on Jan 12

MUSCAT: The organising committee of the Capoeira Championship announced the details of the 2017 Championship which will be held during the period from January 12 to 15 in cooperation with the Brazilian Capoeira Association, during a press conference held on Tuesday at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. Mahmoud bin Khamis al Araimi, Head of the Organising Committee of the Championship, Saud bin Badr Ombosaidy, Director of Sports Activity at the Ministry of Sports Affairs (representing the ministry) coach of Omani for Brazilian Capoeira, a number of representatives of corporate sponsors and media representatives attended the conference. The press conference began with a welcoming speech by Mahmoud bin Khamis al Araimi, in which he said that the championship will begin from January 12, Thursday, under the patronage of Sheikh Khalid bin Omar al Marhoon, Minister of Civil Service at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, adding that the opening ceremony will include capoeira performances with the participation of young people and the Sultanate of international players. He added that more than 200 capoeira players, coaches and experts participate in the championship, coming from 23 countries, including Brazil, Europe and Asia, in addition to participants from the Sultanate and the Gulf states. — ONA
