Sultanate, Lithuania to boost trade, agriculture ties

MUSCAT: Ali bin Masoud al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry, on Tuesday met Linas Antanas Linkevicius, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and his accompanying delegation, visiting the Sultanate. The two ministers discussed means of augmenting trade between the two friendly countries and opportunities available for joint cooperation in areas of information technology, health and foodstuff. The meeting was attended by officials from both countries and businessmen accompanying the guest. Minister visits National Museum Lithuanian Linas Antanas Linkevicius and his accompanying delegation also visited the National Museum on Tuesday. The guest was briefed on the museum, which is built on 13.700 square metres of which 4,000 square metres dedicated to the 15 fixed display halls, namely the Land and the People Gallery, Maritime History Gallery, Arms and Armour Gallery, Aflaj Gallery, Currency Gallery, Prehistory and Ancient History Galleries, Splendours of Islam Gallery, Oman and the World Gallery, Intangible Heritage Gallery and Renaissance Gallery, among others. The guests saw the exhibits, which are displayed in accordance with the international regulations and standards. The National Museum houses 5,466 objects and offers 43 digital immersive experiences, a fully equipped Learning Centre, state-of- the-art conservation facilities, a UHD cinema and discovery areas for children. Linkevicius also visited the Ministry of Health, where he was received by Sayyid Dr Sultan bin Yaarub al Busaidi, Adviser at the ministry. They discussed means of promoting cooperation in the health sector. The visiting delegation explained programmes adopted by government hospitals in Lithuania. The meeting was attended by officials from both sides. Cooperation in agriculture The Omani and Lithuanian officials on Tuesday held talks to enhance cooperation in agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries. The meeting was led by Dr Hamad bin Said al Oufi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Lithuanian Deputy Minister of Agriculture. The Under-Secretary said such meetings between the Sultanate and Lithuania played an important role in sharing experience and knowledge in agriculture. The talks were attended by officials of Oman Food Investment Holding Company and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. — ONA
